Rail Ladder Fire

22'x8'x8'
aluminum ladders, train rail
Allen, TX
2012

The iconic ladders used by fire fighters are periodically decommissioned and replaced. The ladders that have been re-formed into the flames atop this sculpture were used in service in and around Allen. The five train rails that support the flame are intentionally used to honor Allen's historic place: the first train robbery. At night, red and orange lights shine through the interior of the ladder/fire and give the appearance of a glowing ball of fire. Commissioned by the City of Allen for Fire Station #5.
